I’ve been sprouting!

So I checked out a recipe that caught my eye at a food blog I read, 101cookbooks, which required sprouted garbanzos. Of course they are not easy to find, even in Manhattan. I’d probably have to resort to visiting the evil Whole Foods to find them. Sooo, I decided to take a different route…

I have never sprouted anything except things I intend to plant at home before, but the concept is simple. I read up on it, and 24 hours later wala:

Notice they are sprouted? Couple more days and I can make that recipe!

Oh, btw, because I am a skeptic, and because I don’t trust the whole “organic” blah blah movement purveyors (buncha money mongers is what they is), I forgoed the whole ordering organic garbanzo sprout starters for 8 bucks a pound routine, and just used cheap ass Goya chickpeas to sprout with. They are not imported, thus unlikely to be irradiated, and since most seeds can be dried before planting/germination anyways, it made sense that these might sprout. They did, every one of them! They grow so quickly, like by the 1/2 an hour. It’s like watching popcorn pop in v.slow motion. You do have to rinse them several times a day tho.

If you are interested in details of how I did this (nothing special, but i’ll share), just leave a comment in the blog, I’ll get back to you.

FYI: the score is Whole Foods: -5.99 (est) for sprouted garbanzos. Sprout-seed-vendor: -8.99 -s&h too. Goya 1lb bag of garbanzo beans (ugh, total ghetto): +1.00.

I have to wait like 4 more days to have my sprouted garbanzo bean veggi-burgers tho.

PS: Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been busy, as you can obviously tell due to my activities in germinating dried ass old beans from the ghetto supermarket.

UPDATE: Here are the sprouts after on the 2nd day. Growing quickly.

I ran across this link on reddit today to an article where Anthony Bourdain trashes the Food Network. Scroll down to where he totally rips into that stupid twat Rachael Rae.
