Dear Reader,

I published this blog after many requests from people who regularly receive emails from me containing content I found clever, interesting, funny, outrageous, or important. I have many dozens of “you should put this stuff on a blog” emails. Well, I did it, I became a “blogger” for you! *shudder*

Well… it turns out that the act of publishing what really amounts to as short blurbs and commentary about internet content was tedious. You may have noticed that I stopped updating it about two months ago. I gave it 9 months, that’s enough.

Today I have taken the content down in preparation for a change. I have been busy with a job search, otherwise I would have done this sooner. Actually someone reminded me of my site today, and I thought “Oh, I really should get on that.”

This site will return to hosting the original articles that I occasionally write, basic personal info, and some of my professional work. The pics of my pets will also remain.

So I checked out a recipe that caught my eye at a food blog I read, 101cookbooks, which required sprouted garbanzos. Of course they are not easy to find, even in Manhattan. I’d probably have to resort to visiting the evil Whole Foods to find them. Sooo, I decided to take a different route…

I have never sprouted anything except things I intend to plant at home before, but the concept is simple. I read up on it, and 24 hours later wala:

Notice they are sprouted? Couple more days and I can make that recipe!

Oh, btw, because I am a skeptic, and because I don’t trust the whole “organic” blah blah movement purveyors (buncha money mongers is what they is), I forgoed the whole ordering organic garbanzo sprout starters for 8 bucks a pound routine, and just used cheap ass Goya chickpeas to sprout with. They are not imported, thus unlikely to be irradiated, and since most seeds can be dried before planting/germination anyways, it made sense that these might sprout. They did, every one of them! They grow so quickly, like by the 1/2 an hour. It’s like watching popcorn pop in v.slow motion. You do have to rinse them several times a day tho.

If you are interested in details of how I did this (nothing special, but i’ll share), just leave a comment in the blog, I’ll get back to you.

FYI: the score is Whole Foods: -5.99 (est) for sprouted garbanzos. Sprout-seed-vendor: -8.99 -s&h too. Goya 1lb bag of garbanzo beans (ugh, total ghetto): +1.00.

I have to wait like 4 more days to have my sprouted garbanzo bean veggi-burgers tho.

-dr

PS: Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been busy, as you can obviously tell due to my activities in germinating dried ass old beans from the ghetto supermarket.

UPDATE: Here are the sprouts after on the 2nd day. Growing quickly.

Dan Zwonitzer voted against a bill attempting to ban recognition of legal same-sex unions performed out of state or in countries where such unions are legal. The bill died in a comittee by a single vote.

He also gave a level headed and enlightened speech on the issue, drawing ire from many constituents. Here is a quote:

I echo Representative Childers concerns, that testifying against this bill may cost me my seat. I have two of my precinct committee persons behind me today who are in favor of this bill, as I stand here opposed, and I understand that I may very well lose my election. It cost 4 moderate Republican Senators in Kansas their election last year for standing up on this same issue. But I tell myself that there are some issues that are greater than me, and I believe this is one of them. And if standing up for equal rights costs me my seat so be it. I will let history be my judge, and I can go back to my constituents and say I stood up for basic rights. I will tell my children that when this debate went on, I stood up for basic rights for people.

Thank you Dan Zwonitzer. You’re a good man in my book.

A dating site, Polymatchmaker.com, claims 6,500 members, and a book on the subject, The Ethical Slut, sold 60,000 copies. There are even books that polyamorists give their children, including one called Else-Marie and Her Seven Little Daddies.
